I am also getting this same code. I have been doing a little research on this and I have noticed that this code tends to raise its ugly head more so during the winter months as compared to the summer months. Makes you wonder Huh?

So I started thinking that if the problem was that our vehicles are having a problem with the sensors, then this code would be showing itself equally through out the different seasons. But again that's not the case. So how is the outside environment playing that much of a role. It really can only be the T-Stat sticking open and NOT allowing the engine to warm up.

This is not saying that the sensors cant also go bad, I am simply saying that I would start with replacing the T-Stat first! It still is a simple and cheap fix that wont be a big loss if it is not the problem.

This is just my opinion from what I have learned.

Yes you definitely need to look into changing the thermostat, if anything just for preventative maintenance.

The reason why it can happen more in cold months is obviously the cold makes it even harder for the system to work to get the coolant up to proper temp.

Also if you don't reach proper operating temp, the system will never go into closed loop which doesn't allow the PCM to utilize the O2 sensor information to properly adjust air/fuel which also can result in poor drivability and/or loss of mpg.

It's the one with two wires.

If I were you, I'd change both the tstat and the sensor. The sensor is only a few bucks, and as long as you've got things apart it makes sense to just replace both.

^x2.

Where is the needle on your temp gauge? if it's about in the center, it's your coolant temp sensor, if its nearer to COLD it's the t-stat. BTW, if the OHV 4.0 uses a plastic thermostat housing (like the SOHC 4.0) both the sensor and sender will have 2 wires. Also, if you have the plastic t-stat housing, it is likely it will be damaged by removing either the sender or the sensor and will leak afterwards.

My guess is the problem is your t-stat. With P0125 code I'll bet for fuel economy is way down too.
