Why can I not find a cold air intake for my '91? I see it for other years. Can you adapt one of the other years to work? If so, how?

acually i think this site has a link to one somewhere becase ive look at it before, i will look around the site for u

Thanks, let me know what you find. I have been looking for a while now and I cannot find anything.

i know its made by kkm

Awesome!!! Thanks a lot for your help. I do not know how true it is, but I was told you can gain 15-20 HP's and get better MPG.

I have the full setup made by Asmi or whatever it is, and while the power is noticable, my gas milage sucks now. I was getting close to 15 city before, now I am getting 12-13 city, highway was between 20-21 before, now its about 18. I am not *****ing too much because it improved takeoff alot, and passing power.

We would not be driving SUV's if will really cared that much about MPG. If I wanted good MPG I would drive a Honda, no way!!!!

i hate to rain on your parade but im pretty sure that freeing up your intake will not decrease your miles per gallon it should actually improve it..... your driving style proably has caused the change.... think about it since your engine is producing more power its efficiency is higher because you havent changed the amount of fuel going into the cylinder chamber. you have only lessened the air restriction. and dont forget to reset the explorers computer to accept the freer flowing intake

How do you reset the computer?

Disconnect your negative cable on the battery for a while. Re-connect and computer is reset.

Now wait a minute you guys, we don't want to confuse any future searchers on this topic. Please keep in mind that this: http://www.kustomz.com/cat2.html

is NOT a cold-air kit. The KKM is an open-element conical filter. To be a cold-air kit it would have to draw air from outside the engine bay. The KKM is very nice (I run one) but cold air kit, it's not.

There are no pre-made cold air kits that I know of for the 1st gen explorer. You would have to make one yourself, which many people have done.

No way in hell is a filter/intake going to add 15-20. Not to a 4.0 OHV at least

Rhett is right on the cold air, the cone filter is not a cold air induction, neither is mine, which is a cone filter with a 3 inch pipe. You have to be drawing outside air, COLD air, not hot engine bay air.
And yes I realize that it is my driving style that is causing the crappy MPG's, but the thing is, I did not change from before, I dont hotrod it around, its just that it can pull from a red light better, and has a lot more highway power, so I guess in return you are pushing the pedal more. The biggest cause is that work is only 5 mins from my house, which means I am constantly stop and starting short distances.
So, all in all, it is worth the money to get a updated intake, but to really get the good MPG you gotta drive the thing more than a couple miles per trip, but they do add power, dont know how much tho.
