I know there are many posts on this issue but just wanted to get some suggestions before I start working on what I think it wrong. Since it’s such a low mileage vehicle, it just seems odd.

I posted up in the new members thread so this is post#2.

1998 Mercury Mountaineer with 44k original miles.
This is my 80 year old grandmothers vehicle. I got to get it fixed quick as she has a hair appointment Wed and she "CAN'T" miss it. :)

I went over to her house Friday and the car would not start. No fuel pump prime with 3-4 tries. I banged on the bottom tank with a rubber mallet and it primed/started. I came back over Saturday morning to get it and the same thing. No prime/start, bang on tank and start it. Limped it to the house to install pump, strainer and filter. That fixed the no start issue.

It sat out (usually sets in 45degree garage) Saturday night in about 28 degree weather and Sunday it would not idle at all when cold. Once warm it ran and cranked all day NO issues. This morning I drove it again.... same thing. 2-3 minutes of no idle. All of this with 0 codes being thrown.

I did lots of reading and it sounds like its either the AIC, upper and or lower intake gaskets. My question is why no codes? It would not run at all for the 1st 20 seconds without feathering the gas.

I’m going to hit this up tonight so post up any other suggestions.

excellent web site guys.
