Cold Starter Woes 93

yeh...i had to bang on my starter to get it to turn over today...but it is also in the 10s today...however, i think that this is telling me that my starter/solenoid are getting weak...battery fully changed, relay connections looked good...i dont think 10w30 is a good viscosity oil for cold too and thats whats in it...so i was just seeing if anyone else had this problem...the starter is old and it has done the job for 100000 miles plus, but obviously i think its getting a little tired...and yes when its down in the 20s or 30s it cranks slow but fires...

If it you have to tap on the starter to get it to work it is because the starter is not able to engage with the power supplied. This is usally caused by a starter on its last leg. If (as you stated) the battery is good the problem is most likely the starter.

exactly, its gonna be a intermitant problem for the next couple weeks till my foot heals and i can tackle this issue...i almost have feeling that i might have a bad connection from the relay or the solenoid

Had the same problem... always turned when I hit the starter with a hammer. Turned out the connector on the wire from the relay to the solenoid was badly corroded. I ended up replacing the positive battery cable and that solved my problem...

yeh, i wasnt so lucky...put in a new starter today...and waiting for the next problem with it, which will be corrosion
