I just sold my RE x.. 12's not to long ago. I purchased four fully loaded FI BTL 18's which are currently in my possesion. I will be starting the build after I sound deaden the truck. Look for the build to start in about two or three weeks. I will pull the back seat out and wall off the truck with all four firing forward in a 24 cu. ft. box minus the port which has not been measured out yet. I will be shooting for 165 on a TL meter on the dash with windows up...If the windshield stays in. Plan on tuning to about 34hz. Wish me luck.

LOL.

You wont do 165s, sorry. No way.

Second, your windshield isn't going anywhere.

I'd like to see the rest of your build before stating anymore.

But those two things, I figure I need to address right now.

Agreed...you will not be getting into the 165's on the first try...it may take you a long time.

Even then I don't think you'll be getting into the 165's

really depends on the wall and the type of enclosure...Pete K was almost into the 160's with two 13W7's and a single amp.

Walls are for cheaters for 1. :thumbdwn: Almost into the 160s... He was doen a 154 on a BURP! 154dB isn’t even close to a 160. And that amp was a Hifonics XX-Colossus. Not an everyday amplifier. Now with 2 Colossus and 2 SoundStream x..-15s he could only BURP a 156. Proof in the link. 160s with that setup WILL NOT happen. Sorry! If you doubt me ill post pix of the work I have done. I’m not making this up. Sorry if im taking this to seriously it's just that I hear people talking all the time about what there system is going to meter once it's done and its usually not a reasonable #. I am at 148dB on music, Sealed at the dash using the Term Lab meter. I have been trying for a 150 sealed for a year now. A legal 150dB score on music is not easy to obtain let alone a 160. In my opinion you will do some ware around a low to mid 50 on music and almost a 60 on a burp. When the system is all done, post your legal scores. Good luck

On the other hand, very nice choice in woofers. Fi makes some amazing products. I’m currently running my third pair of Fi 18s and love them. Good luck on the build. Going to knock for sure. One suggestion though. Tune the wall to the 36-38Hz reign. You’ll meter better.

:salute:

I was going from memory...I'm not on his nuts damn...lol.

Why do you say walls are for cheaters?? There are different classes for different people. Saying walls are for cheaters is like say Top Fuel Dragsters are for cheaters.

I'm still waiting to see what Pete has in store for the Vehicross

Yeah Pete is a good guy. Not to fond of his enclosure designs though! I was saying walls are for cheaters because anyone can get a wall loud. Takes more to get a none walled vehicle loud. But I wouldn’t mind a wall myself. Built right they can be bad ass!

yeah...well walls aren't always loud the first time around...I've seen people build some pretty huge walled setups that weren't too impressive.

Why don't you like his enclosure designs??

I dont mean to come off as an ass...but this build doesnt have anywhere near 165 db in it on the TL at the dash.

165 db in SS3-4 is a world class score. You'd need a large 16 volt battery bank, 16 big amps, and most of all...a more wall SPL friendly vehicle than an explorer.

I think you'll be around 14 db short of your goal unless you raise your tuning or get better amps. Those are the two major weak points I see....that and your box is going to flex like mad without any external bracing.

But props to you for diving in and getting your hands dirty

doesnt take much to get a walled vehicle loud....unless you compare it to other walled vehicles. If there wasnt classes seperating non walls from walls then id understand a wall being like cheating but its not.

Its pretty fullfilling though when you have a true daily driver explorer with all seats functional and a setup in the back that still beats all the local walls :)

Ive got a competition comin up this sunday...aiming for a 155.0 on the TL sealed off of 2 amps. Or a 156.0 if I run 4 amps. we shall see

also..theres not really much point in deadening behind the enclosure. That shouldnt affect anything if your trim panels fit tightly enough once its all done.

Also I hope you anchored those 2x4s down to the seat studs....otherwise you're going to be a pancake with that thing behind you in an accident

yea well he has pos amp's at the moment , 6 sony xplod 1000 watt's lol i hate those amp's but thats the one's he bought , he just ordered a 20000 watt earthquake amp so i wonder what he will hit when it come's in lol

that earthquake amp is junk too. 2 powerbass 3000d's were something like 0.5 louder than it
