Does anyone here have experience with dogs and leather seats in an explorer that doesn't have the Eddie Bauer brand leather? Like how does it hold up against their feet? I've seen dogs in leather vehicles before but curious as to if it would rip the seats up.

I had leather in my '96, and the only problem is that if you stop short the dog will fly off, it's too slippery. As long as you keep their nails clipped there should be no problem with tearing. Better for them to ride in the back though, they seem more comfortable with the carpet than on leather.

Ok, just wondering because next explorer is probably going to have leather and our 2 dogs like to ride in our 96 because the back windows go down and kinda worried about the leather tearing up. Because I think with the back seat folded down they may stand to high.

how big a dog? Folded down seats are not that high...small to mid size is OK

also, they SHOULD be seat belted in with a harness and a special belt for them. You certainly dont want your dog hurt in an accident.

Dixie is a small dog so far and Molly is about medium size. I didn't know you could get a special harness for them

they make a cargo area cover that is washable, it is leak/drool proof. I had it in my Explorer, it is now in my Expedition with leather seats. I simply fold down second and third row seats put in the cover and open the door for the dogs, both 100# labs. No problems!! T'haven crowd knows them well!

My 130# German Shepherd has not put a single hole in any of my leather seats and I have leather in every vehicle.

My dogs dont weigh that much, dixie is probably 10 pounds and molly is probably around 50. I guess I'll see what quality leather it is when I get it, if your 96 has leather its probably the same then.
