2014 Explorer Limited
2014 Ford Explorer Limited. Problem started a couple of months ago. Happens with car off, can be locked or unlocked. If locked, cannot open doors with fob or keypad. If unlocked, absolutely nothing works, no crank, no lights (dash, interior, exterior, etc.) - nothing. After a few minutes, will come "back to life" - at least so far. Sometimes seems to happen right after a door is unlocked and opened. Coincidentally or not, once when locked out I hit the door hard and power came back on. If inside, I can often slam either front door and get just enough of a power blip that if I simultaneously press the START button, the vehicle will start - and everything works. Sync will usually restart/reboot and settings will be messed up - but pretty much come back once car is shutdown and restarted... Battery tests good, is about one year old, and terminals are clean. Hot or cold weather, does not matter. Does not rain here a lot, so not likely due to moisture. Dealer clueless so far - not luck enough for it to happen for them even when I left the car for three days. Rarely happens more than once every 4 - 5 days, but has happened twice in one day a couple of times.

Ideas??? Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Forum.
I'm wondering if there may be a bad 'ground' connection somewhere? :dunno: Are you able to remote start the Explorer? Are battery connections tight and clean?

Hi,

The battery checks out strong and the cables/connectors are all good and clean (battery and cables/connectors all checked by Ford Service yesterday. Cannot do anything with the fob, the keypad, or the tailgate button. If the car is unlocked, absolutely nothing comes on - util it magically restores itself or a slam a door and time hitting the START button when I see the dash and button blink. Thanks.

I'm sure they did this but do you know if they checked for any possible stored trouble codes?

Yes, they did. Said they found "a couple" of low voltage situations.
