Okay! To make a long story short the column in my 99 mounty has to come out. I just recieved a replacement from one of our members but we are both stumped on this question.

I am told there is a chip or relay that matches the computer so as the vehicle will start located in or on the steerng column. I have taken the ignition switch barrells out of each of them to swap around. But I do not know where the chip or relay is located so I can change out those. I was told I could take it to the ford dealer and they can change reset the new key and tumbler but then I have to pay towing charges and shop cost. Sorry but I dont have that kind of money right now after buying this vehicle and fixing it up to drive. Can anyone help me here on this one.

there is a chip in your factory key that sends a signal to the pats system that allows it to start.

the ring around the ignition switch is what you are talking about that needs to be swapped from your old column to the new one

the part that says "siemans" on it. it is held in with one screw. unbolt it, slide it off, and put it on the new column and use your factor ignition switch and factory key. if you are replacing all of this because your switch is broken, or have lost your key, then you will have to either get it reprogrammed from ford, or the other thing you can do is get a xcal tuner from henson performance and ask him to program the pats out of the truck.

Thank you for the response. The key barrell and key was not the problem. It was the long neoprene slider that the key barrell engaged when the key was turned. So I just replaced the column. So all I have to do is replace the Seimens control box and that is it from what I am gathering. Thanks for all your help on this
Peter
