Computer Swap?

dont know how that would work. your system is obd1. 95 and earlier vehicles have this, then in 1996 they switched to a new federal standard computer. to get a tuner for a 96+ it would need to be obd2, requiring extensive electrical work.

You could get a donar vehicle with the same engine and convert to a obd-ii system from there. I have seen it done a couple of times.

The OBDII started during the 95 model year, I have two 95 Crown Vics with OBDII.

The differences in the two systems should be mainly with the engine harness and the dash harness. Dealing with wiring in the dash is not easy, hopefully the number of extra wires isn't too bad. You will have plenty of factory locations in the connectors for the extra wiring. Try to get at least the whole engine harness from a 96-97 Explorer V6. The difference in hard parts will be very minor/few. Good luck,
