I've asked this before in the general forum, but thought I'd give it a shot here - I can't seem to find anyone that can help.
I have a 96 EB 4.0 with a center console computer (mileage, fuel left etc) The computer does all calculations perfectly, but for some reason, the mileage is "floating" when the vehicle is standing still. If I watch the miles traveled option, 10ths of miles click off while sitting still. The "real" ODO in the dash seems to work fine. Dealership says I need a new computer head, but I find that hard to believe since it's working fine in all other respects. All calculations are correct based upon the input given it (did them myself using the elapsed miles and fuel left shown on the computer) Fuel left in tank reading is correct, and everything else works.
I'm told that the speed sensor on the vehicle works both the dash ODO and the one in the console, so I'm stumped. It wouldn't be a big deal, but I'm a programmer by profession, and it's driving me nuts. Seems like a case of "garbage in - Garbage out" to me, but I'm not sure. Hate to replace the entire computer just to fix this, but if that's what I have to do, I will.
