Console Question

I was wondering if anyone knows why in the rear seat if you look at the center console below the air vents in the bottom corner why there are 2 slits on both sides? It looks like something is missing to me?

Funny, I thought the same thing the first time I saw it. The slits are for floor heat from the bottom of the console when you have the lever set to the floor position.
