Console Shift Indicator - Does it light the position?

I am new here. We just brought home a brand new 2019 Explorer Sport. We noticed as it got dark the gear shifter doesn’t light up the drive positions? It only lights on the dash?

Correct, that is normal.

It might be possible that it was simply disconnected, but seeing as yours is a 19MY, I doubt that and more likely it just wasn't included full stop - Ford have put in quite a few cost cutting measures on the 19MY such as turned-down tips, only 1 horn instead of 2.

Crazy...they have so many added expensive features and for that price tag I can’t believe lighting up the shifter was left out.

This entire generation has been kind of weird honestly.

The retooling of CAP ate up too much of the budget I guess.

To be honest, I never look down at the shifter. Heck after 8 years, I thought it never lit up and found out recently on this forum that it does (I had a 2011). Why look down when you can loo straight at the dash? And heck, I know it is once down to reverse, 2 to drive. No real reason for it IMO.

Definitely not ‘simply disconnected’...search on this forum will show a specific TSB issued for 2019s telling the dealers/customers this is normal.

I just got a 2019 Sport as well and I have the same question/concern. I did see a post somewhere on here that said the console does NOT light up. I also noticed the floorboard “EXPLORER” light does not light up on the passenger side. Not really a big deal but it would be nice to know if it’s just that way or is there a bulb or fuse bad.

Thanks for any responses

I'm guessing the 2019 should be the same as my 14 and both sides Explorer lights come one.
I can't help you if it's a fuse or bulb, but does sound like something isn't working.

Post #56 says that the 2019 does not have the illuminated console shift positions. As for the sill plates, both side should be illuminated. Perhaps it is a connection issue. I believe they are LED.
