I have a 1995 XLT with control trac. When it is dry, or really slick I have no problems with 4wd Auto. In changing conditions (like going up a slushy hill) it feels as if the 4wd is skipping. No grinding, or clunking, just getting and loosing traction. All fluids in the driveline have been changed. Is this normal?
Thanks in advance.

Its just your rear wheels slipping and the front wheels getting traction and compensating for the slippage. Sounds normal to me.

Normal, disadvantage of having no 4HI. Just push the peddle harder ;)

Thanks.

It depends. Does it make a clicking, snapping style sound? And feel like it momentarilty losing torque?

No real noise to speak of, but it does jerk and feel like it is hesitating. I am hoping it is just the design of the system, where the sensors have to notice a speed difference between the front and rear wheels before engaging the 4WD. This works great in design, but unfortunately falls short in a lot of situations.
