Hi folks - I live in Paraguay where I have a 1999 Explorer. I am considering converting it to use E85 fuel. I have read that this fuel damages some rubber parts that are not flex fuel compatible. If I do the conversion, what parts do I have to change? Anyone want to recommend a converter make. Here they have White Lightning and Full Flex models. Many thanks for your comments. You can pickup a FlexTek. It's a bolt on mod for your computer and it keeps your fuel injectors open just a little longer. It will run you about $100. You will also have to change your fuel filter about a month or so after changing as the alcohol will break down the sludge in your tank.

As for the plastic and rubber break down you should be fine. Back in the late 80's states started requiring a certain % alcohol mix in the gas and manufactures went to protected plastics which would not be effected by alcohol. You could go with a full synthetic oil just for extra protection here.

You may also want to pick up some high end park plugs such as the E3 centerfires. Alcohol will burn at a lower temp thus wasting some that is injected, a hotter, larger spark should help this. You will also have cold start issues if you don't go with high end plugs.

Other than that, you should be pretty much good to go.
