So, the Ranger's got a cracked OHV block. I have an ENTIRE 2002 salvage Explorer XLT, with a SOHC. Both auto trans. Both PATS.

What kind of magic will I have to perform to make this happen, or will the engine play nice with the slightly older platform?

I bought the Expo for the trans, rear end, and some body parts. The beautifully running engine was a bonus. And since my Expo just got a new engine two years ago, I'd like to give an extra 50 horses to the Ranger.

Anybody?

analog instrument cluster

Your Ranger has an analog instrument cluster with discrete signals controlling the indicators. The 2002 Explorer has a microprocessor controlled instrument cluster with a digital interface to the PCM.

The Ranger has a 5R55E transmission and the 2002 Explorer has a 5R55S/W transmission. The engine and transmission wiring harnesses are different.

The GEM will also probably be a problem.

I suggest that you obtain wiring diagrams for both vehicles and determine the differences before deciding to attempt the swap.
