Cooked subwoofer in 94 Limited - replace with?

Toy, so is the key to these tabs just pushing down on them? I was trying my hardest with a putty knife to push down on them but I just started breaking them. I will mess with it tonite, can't be rocket science.

seems like everyone has problems getting these panels off, if you can post a pic of the back of the panel that would be great.

gsmaclean, sorry for hi-jacking your thread.

Ok, pulled the screen off. That was easy and a good idea  .

Tried removing the panel and broke every frickin tab on it!!!

After removing the panel I can see that its no easily modified. How the hell did you guys fit a 10" sub in there? Also since I screwing around with the speaker what about swapping out the amp? Is it worth it? I'm not looking for a kickass system just something that sounds good. Thanks.

they have the panel on ebay that alows you to fit a 10 inch sub in there. I have my factory amp hooked up to my 500w 10 inch lightning audio sub and it sounds awsome. When i get the time I will install a bigger amp but for now the factory amp does great.

Dam good info! I found some 10" Pioneers for around $60. Think it was 600w so they would work great for me. Problem is they come as a set. I'll look around for a single. Which amp would you swap in???

Grill info...

There are nine tabs on the back of the grill:

The tabs slide into the nine slots around the opening:

Plastic wedge clips go through the tab's horizontal slot to hold the grill in place:

Note: All my tabs are broken off. That tab pictured is one of the broken off pieces.

To remove these clips, you need access to the backside of the panel. The notch in the clip prevents them from just simply falling out of the grill tab horizontal slots.

Hope this helps out.

Years back I had my JBL SW re-coned by an outfit in Westminster, CA. Having the original speaker re-coned guarantees a perfect fit and like-new performance.

It's easier to just remove the whole interior panel.

When I told my Ford mechanic neighbor about removing the panel, he loaned me his Snap-On ASG185A Trim Pad Tool.

Worked great. Zero damage to the panel, or the trim fasteners

I'm still having trouble finding a 6.5" subwoofer.

So what's the voice coil?? 2 or 4??

Yes !! You can order dual 2 or dual 4 ohm voice coils. I would suggest the dual 2, then wire them in series to get 4 ohms. This will match the factory spec. But you could get the dual 4, wire them in parallel to get 2 ohms; this will give you more sound but I'm not sure how well the factory amp would handle that.

I considered that, but the original 13-year-old sub was so raddy looking, I decided to just go replace it altogether.

I replaced it with a Pyle sub. It's OK, not as much bass as the factory. If (when) I blow it, I'll probably cut out the opening and fit an 8" in there, as mentioned here.
