Hi!
I have a 94 explorer, Ed Baur, v6 2x4. I am getting ready to change the coolant. I am concerened about the backflushing part as described in the Haynes manual.
I bought Prestone Antifreeze/Super flush and the flush'n Fill kit also for backflushing.

1. Am I suppose to drain the existing coolant out, then put the super flush in and fill the rest up with water and run the engine for about 10 minutes ?

2. After this, should I drain it again, refill with new antifreeze and then do the backflushing ?

Anybody who has done this yourself please reply

Thanks

Sam

Drain the old stuff out first (in an environmentally-friendly way, of coarse Dead Link Removed ). Then hook up the plastic backflush thingy, fill radiator with water (no antifreeze yet) and SuperFlush and flush until water runs clear...

The Preston Super Flush kit thingies are great!!! Just cut your line and insert the Tee as described on the instructions. Once you're done flushing and the water runs clear, let the water drain out from the pet **** as much as it will. When done, tighten the pet ****, but leave the cap off the Tee. Add the required amount of coolant first, then fill with distilled water until coolant just start to flow out the Tee. This will "burp" air out of the system. Once coolant starts to come out, replace the cap on the Tee and finish adding water. Check it again after running it a while, and be sure to add coolant to recovery bottle to the required mark.

A word of warning... those stoopid Tees only hold up for about 2 - 3 years or so and become brittle and break...believe me... they do. Just buy another kit for the Tee and replace it periodically.
