A friend of mine has a '95 V6 and is about to change out the coolant. Is there anything "special" that needs to be done after flushing and adding new stuff? Like purging the air in the system??

Have him/her re-check the coolant level again after a couple of short trips. I recently changed the coolant before our 3k cross country trip and found the coolant to have dropped a little (probably from air purging) after a couple trips to the market. I topped up before the long trip and the level and temp has been fine. I used Low-Tox coolant to help protect my dogs.
It seems to work well.

Here is a Tip when changing your thermostat, or Anti Freeze. then replacing the thermstat, hold it open, and insert 2 Tylenol's (pills, used for taking away pain), one on each side of the thermostat. Then place the thermostat in place and finishe your Job. The Reason you do this, is so that when you fill your cooling system back up, its completely open, and you don't get any Air Pockets. When the Engine comes up to temperature, it will dislove the pills and the thermostat will work as Normal. This was told to me by a Certified Ford Mechanic.
