2005 mountaineer 4.0
Hi everyone. I just replaced the engine on a 2005 Mountaineer 4.0 SOHC. Everything went well, considering I did it all by myself. the only question/problems I seem to have is the engine wont rev over 3500 at idle. The other thing I see is coolant coming from some sort of drain maybe? its just above the transmission and just aft of the starter. it looks like it comes from the floor from inside, maybe from the heater box or ducting. any idea what this is, and if its a problem? thanks

Not revving over 3500rpm sounds like it could be a fuel delivery issue. You need to start with the basics and get some scanner data and start troubleshooting. Regarding the leak, if you could get a picture of where it's leaking from that would be helpful.

Neutral rev limiter usually kicks in around 3000 RPM. Why do you need to rev your engine without a load that high?

Regarding your coolant leak, the most common cause is the lower thermostat housing splitting at the rear seams.

Dont need to rev that high, just was checking engine performance after swap. I figured it was the rev limiter, but Im used to rev limiters kicking in around 4000-4500 rpms. as far as the coolant leak, it nowhere near the thermostat housing as explained in my original post.

heres a picture of where the coolant is pouring out. it is jusy above the tranny and looks like it comes from mid inside cabin, behind the hvac ducting maybe....why cant i attach the photo???????????? i made my avatar the pic of the area. since im not allowed to use attachments thats the only way can show you

Ummmmm...... I don't think that will work...lol.:D Maybe use photobucket??? That's what I use.

Most auto parts chain stores rent coolant system pressure test kits with a 100% refundable deposit upon return.

Easiest and fail safe way to detect coolant leaks except for an occasional head gasket pinhole. Call around and GL.

i have a coolant system leak test set. im not worried about finding the leak. im trying to find out what that opening is supposed to be for.
