The coolant hose in the passenger side of my 99 explorer 4.0 is hard, is that normal or is there something wrong?

I installed a new radiator the other day.

Thanks in advance .

Btw, I also replaced the radiator cap with a new one, my mom has a 98 and it doesn't do the same but her radiator cap is old if that matters .

You need to replace that hose. Replace both while you are at it.

I replaced that hose like 2 years ago, my bad , when I mean hard I'm referring to pressure. When it's cold it's soft so I'm assuming it's building pressure and I'm not sure if that's normal.

Are you seeing/hearing bubbles in your plastic coolant reservoir? If so you have a blown head gasket, which is leaking exhaust into the cooling system.

When the system is cool, loosen the radiator cap 1/2 way. If you get a belch of air in the coolant reservoir, that would be a head gasket.

Before changing your radiator did the engine overheat?

No noise at all, before never had any problems no overheating and the engine runs as usual. I thought it could be a thermostat.

Yes, thats fine. The pressure should go up as temperature goes up and the hoses should be hard when the engine is hot. They will be soft when cold. If they collapse when cold have a look at your rad cap.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification .
