I've had it before. It smells sweet, it's coolant leaking out of the heater core I assume. I think we've had it replaced before, because it was blowing coolant smoke into the car (smelled real bad). Anybody have any ideas what would be causing my stupid car from blowing up the heater core so damn easy? Thanks in advance.

First I would make sure you did have it replaced (you sounded like you weren't sure?).
Usually the core is the problem. If you did have it replaced it may be a crack in the hoses where they attach to the core.
I replaced my core and it was easy, about an hour.

If you did replace it before, did you scrub out the heater box?? if not, the residue from antifreeze can hang around and smell for a looooong time.

sorry to bring up such an old thread but how much can i expect to pay for a new heater core?? I had coolent leak from my intake manifold gasket and that cost $500 to fix and now a week later there is no leak from the gasket anymore but im still losing collent fast and i smell coolent when i turn on the fan and especialy when the heater is on.
