Try a different Thermostat and/or an electric fan.

Jay

If you mean that some of the shroud was cut away, that would really affect the system's ability to cool.

P.S. Welcome to the site! Also, did you know that typing all in caps is akin to shouting?

How did you determine the temperature? On my 4.0 SOHC, the normal operating temperature ( as measured with an OBD II Scanner ) is 190-195 F.

200 degree's is not too hot, sounds like it is running fine.

What makes you think it is running too hot?

You can fry an egg on a block at idle.

Jay

PS - I realized after typing the first reply that I wasn't awake yet and the coffee hadn't kicked in.

I have flushed the cooling system and put in a new 195 thermostat. I bought the truck used and it had a set of cheap gauges in it .so I replaced them with autometer.I have always been into mustangs(drag racing)and the cooler the better(around 180 or less). It will go up if I turn on the A/C.What is the best up grades. thanks
p.s. sorry about the caps

This has been debated 1000 times on this board. I personally prefer a 180 stat to help keep the op temp down around 190-195. Some people say this is bad for a Ford engine, I dont believe that, the computer will still switch to open loop.

I too believe cooler is better.

so it's up to you but I say 180 stat.

mods

What radiators are you using?

I'm running a 5.0 ho in an 88 ranger and it runns around 200-210 with dual electric fans and a explorer hd radiator this is fine for the newer fuel injected engines it wont hurt them a bit

Caroline, what year Ranger do you have, and what size engine?
