When i bought the Ex back in Jan it didn't have a thermostat in it, so i put one in, all was well. all of a sudden about a week later the temp went up to max for about 5 secs then back to normal and the heater went cold. I checked this out under the hood, the expansion tank lid had blown off and all water had emptied out. I then topped up rad with engine running to get rid of air lock with about 2ltrs water.

I thought i had solved the problem, but if i leave the car stood for a while (2 weeks) or drive around 800 miles the problem re occurs. There are def no leaks anywhere on the car.

Could it be the rad cap? or could it be the wrong thermostat as i had the local garage do it for me and it wasn't a genuine ford part.

Any ideas what the problem is guys? Please help. Cheers Marty.

I would take off the top hose and the bottom hose, set the heater to hot and back flush with a hose pipe first. Sounds like an air lock.

Once you have clear running water, replace the top bottom hose and top up with antifreeze.
you are fixed after that!

I agree with the Flushing the system. Use a concentrated flush with the system closed and just filled with water. Did you buy the right open/open full temp thermostat? I say buy another thermostat that is specified for your truck just to make sure.

Hmm sounds like from what you said the thermostat is opening late.

i agree do the flush but also change thermostate just in case also slim chance but could be waterpump playing up

Thanks for the advice guys, the problem is that I'm not sure what I'm doing with these engines, and with living in central London the ex is parked a million miles away and I'm on the 3rd floor! so hose pipe out! hence why i have to pay somebody else to do it for me. Does anyone want the job? Marty
