Hi,

I have 96 Explorer Sport 4WD with 3.27 gears. I'd like to know how much I should expect to pay a shop to replace 3.27 with say 3.73 gears (parts and labor)?

Also, if there is anyone within 100 miles of Pittsburgh who can do this, let me know and I'll be happy to pay you instead of going to a shop I don't know.

Thanks

...in my opinion, i would look up kbabiak on here...he is a membor and a vendor here of used parts and he is in pa...he could hook you up with the gears and possibly someone to install for you...;)

...otherwise, a new gear set would cost 150-250 plus a master kit i believe about 89 bucks and install about 300 bucks, just for a rough price...before doing the gear change to 3.73's, it helps to know what size tires you plan to run, for high milage or low end torque, as these are very important for gear sizing...:D

And you'd have to do both axles. So about 1000. It'd be easier and cheaper to go to the junk yard and find a set of axles and swap those in instead. 3.27 to 3.73 is a pretty small jump and explorers came with them from the factory.

I plan to stay with factory tires. I'll check with kbabiak, thanks. I'd like to do it because there are way to many hills around here and my X keeps switching gear on highway around 60. I hope that switching gears will make it easier on the transmission.
thanks
