2 part question:
1.) How do you remove the plastic intake for the A/C, that also surrounds the windshield wipers on a 96 Explorer? I would assume this just pries off (after you take the wipers off, obviously), but it's on there pretty tight. Any tricks to popping the little sucker off?
Second, is the metal piece between the aforementioned plastic part and the hood bolted or welded on? (or integral to the body?) I'm replacing most of my front end after an accident, and this metal part got damaged after my hood flew up while driving after the accident. (one of many dumb moves.) Thanks in advance for any insight y'all might be able to give me.

96 is first gen right ?!!?!?

I am pretty sure that is a welded pannel.
It is on second gen.

They just pop right off. You have to do it carefully but firmly though. The one thing to watch out for is the washer nozzle tube. They are attached with a very thin fragile plastic so be carefull when pulling off the cowl.

Heres a look at the inside:

Here's one with the broken nozzle I was talking about. The guy that replaced my windshield broke that piece and tried to tape it in place... what an idiot!

96 is a secind gen. I was afraid that piece was welded on, anybody know how easy it is to get off? If it's too much, I just may have to live with it being screwed up, although I really don't want to...

Please don't double post, moderators don't like that

Replacing that filler will not be fun.
Have you considered repairing it ?
A body hammer and some good quality filler will work wonders.

Thanks for the heads up XplorerKid, I'll try to remember.

After closer inspection, I'm in agreement on replacing that filler, I'm either going to hit it with bondo or just leave it be. Thanks for all the input! Now, anybody parting out a second generation front end? (I need everything except for the driver's fender. Also, how do I get the headlamp out? The corner lamps were easy enough, but the headlight's giving me a bit of trouble...

Replacing the headlight bulbs is moderately painless, if you have small hands and a flashlight! First unplug the connector, and then twist the lock ring off (clockwise from front?) Now gently wiggle the bulb out (o-ring will be sticky) and watch the way you remove it so you can guide the new one in without abusing it too much.
