1) What does a CV shaft sound like when its been over extended because of a TT? I dont hear any noise, but it'd be nice to know what to expect.

2) Every now and then i get a high pitched squealing from the left front, and then it goes away. Sounds like i need to grease the wheel bearing, or maybe replace it?

3) *sometimes* when i get on the brakes, i hear a grinding type noise fromthe front, sounds like my tire is rubbing on the fender (which it isnt.) This happened in my parents 96 X and they had to have the ball joints replaced. Think thats what my problem is?

Edit: Forgot to mention its a 96 4.0L with about 150k on the odometer.

CV shaft noise is usually a clicking noise followed but, grinding or vibration when turning, the sqealing noise sounds like brakes, any vibration? does it grind when the brakes are applied in reverse? check you backing plate behing the rotor and be sure it has not been rubbing especially at the bottom. Matt

The squealing isnt from brakes. It only happens ocasionally when im not on the brakes. Sometimes after makeing a turn or soemthing. Its kinda random.

As far as i know it doesnt make the grinding noise in reverse when i get on the brakes. And it usually only does it when i try to slow down faster then usual (sudden red light, etc) from at least 45mph or so.

I agree with Matt Dobbs. Check the pads on your front brakes. There is a small strip of metal on the side of the pads that contacts the disk when the pads are worn to the limit. This strip will cause a screeching sound that will usually go away when brakes are applied. AND it can stop/start depending on the temperature of the brakes, dirt, grease residue, water from rain, etc.

Check those brake pads!
