I have a 2002 Ford Explorer 4-door. The courtesy lights inside the car and the puddle lights outside the car don't work anymore when i unlock the car or open the door. They do turn on when i use the light switch next to the headlight switch. There suppose to turn on when i unlock it with the remote or when i open the door and when i remove the key from ignition. Also their suppose to turn off when i lock the car with remote. Is that so much to ask? anyways any help would be greatly appreciated. i had a remote start alarm removed and the problem started after that. I CAN NOT go back to installer under any circumstances, but i can sue if i cant prove it was him. please help. thanks

From the central security module, there is a brown wire that is supposed to trigger the parking lamp relay. I suspect that the installer may have tapped into this one for the alarm. If the wire was not fully reconnected, that might explain it.

I still haven't figured out what triggers the puddle lamps or the courtesy lights inside.... still searching....

It also appears that there is a violet/light green wire that feeds a signal to the GEM. It appears that the GEM is what triggers the relay for the puddle lamps and interior lamps, and it's possible that this signal wire is bad.

I would suggest the fuse that powers the accessory delay relay, battery saver relay, and interior lamp relay, but that should be good since they work with the interior lamp switch. (for the record, it would be #17 (15A) in the central junction box)

Somehow, the central security module needs to send a signal to the GEM to tell the GEM to ground the relay for the puddle lamps and the interior lights. If the GEM doesn't get that signal, It could certainly cause the problem. I just don't know enough about the system to know where that signal comes from, and it's not obvious on the schematics.

I suspect that whenever they disconnected the alarm, the (un-)installer wasn't very careful about reconnecting the old wires back the way they came.

Good luck!!
