So I took the Ex into the dealership to get a few things done (tranny flush, new pads) and I asked them to figure out why I have no AC all of a sudden, and they call me back and tell me that the system does not hold any pressure and that I have a cracked manifold.

What does this mean? Can I drive the vehicle this way for a while or what?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

The manifold is part of the a/c system, you can drive like that indefinetly.
Good to know. Since summer is almost over I do not see a reason to get it fixed right now. That also is probably the reason why the other day when it was raining cats and dogs and I turned on the defrost it got worse.

How much would something like that cost to get fixed? I think he quoted me $700.

What year is your Explorer and what engine?

Your profile says 1995 but you posted in the 2002-2005 forum.

Sorry, its a 2002 XLT with the 4.0L

Sold the old 95.... I really miss it.

What manifold it he talking about, can you get a pic?
do you have rear air? There might be a manifold for the rear air, but that's only plumbing in the engine compartment, which you can diy, and have someone else vac and charge it. for 700 i would expect it to be something in the dash? Can you find where its leaking from.

I have no idea where it is leaking from, or even where the manifold is. But yes I do hear the sound of leaking air from somewhere after I have the HVAC turned on.

I'm sorry I cannot be more helpful, most of my knowledge is of the second generation Ex's not the third.

Luckily the 3rd Gens have very easy access to the intake manifolds.
It's a very wide engine, and everything is right there and should be easy to get to.
