Crank sensor replacement Anybody?

I am trying to replace crank position sensor on a 98 Explorer 4.0 SOHC. Located it with little difficulty, however I can not figure best way to get to it. Looking at it from above, there is a water pump hose above the CPS, and the serpentine belt looks like it may be an issue regarding access. Is it best to get to CPS from above or below, and what needs to be removed prior to unplugging connector and unbolting. Please be specific. Thanks!:eek:

Anybody????

Over 400+ viewers on this forum and not one person has ever changed a crank position sensor? I have a 98 4.0L SOHC Exploder and can not see an easy way to get to the CPS without removing hoses, belts .etc. Can anybody please advise best method to remove, and from above or below???
 






I pulled the CKP off of my 97 for a bench test. I seem to recall doing it from below, and it being pretty easy. It passed the bench test, so no I never changed one :-)
 






Thanks for the reply. I was able to unhook the electrical connector from the bottom, but I can't get to the bolts to remove the CPS- too many hoses in the way. From above. there is a water pump (I think) hose in the way, but the major roadblock is the fan and fan shroud. I hope I don't have to remove them too. Helpppp!
 






I did one on my 96 f150 and you have to remove the fan and pulley to be able to get at the I think 1/4" bolts with an extension and swivel head socket. Removing the lower hose makes it easier, but like you said not necessary.
 






It's just nuts and bolts. Take apart what's necessary to get to the sensor. If it's to much for you, have the truck towed to a mechanic that may be better suited to unscrew some nuts and bolts to replace the sensor.
