I am stumped by this problem. I removed the crankshaft positioning send on my 99 mountaineer to clean the magnetic tip. After replacing the sensor I notice that the engine runs like it is skipping and not accelerating normally. I couldn't have moved the timing because the vehicle didn't move until after I replace the sensor. If anyone has any knowledge of this please let me know.

Moving the vehicle doesn’t matter. It’s a Hall effect sensor.

Check the connector? Unplug and replug?

C420sailer, thanks for the info. I will try that and see how it runs.

Odds are that you bumped something while doing the work, or the connector didn’t reseat well.

What engine 4.0 pushrod or 5.0 pushrod?

Was these stuff/ debris on the sensor?
What made you think it needed cleaning?
