Tin Roof Rain noise.

Looks like your dealership has some 'splainin' to do. Stick it to them good! That is beyond ridiculous.

Well I spoke too soon.

Upon closer inspection the "new" headliner is damaged / torn on the passenger side.

Didn't notice it until today while it was out in the sun with good visibility.

Now the dealer is not so cooperative.

I'll keep you posted how this turns out.

Just got back from picking mine up after having the rain noise TSB completed........They also threw in....free of charge......expanding foam on my headliner, foam on my weathertech floor mats, visor installed backwards(rotates towards windshield rather than the side window) and foam on the visor, foam on the passenger leather seat (looks like they tried to clean it), foam splatter in the cup holder, and foam on the plastic base of the passenger seat.......

Kinda makes you wish the rain noise was still there.

Based upon the headache I am going through with just the headliner, I would say you have and interesting future with getting all that fixed correctly.

Sorry to see that. Keep us posted and good luck.

this tsb for the rain noise seems like a receipe for disaster. the thoughts of letting a ford dealer tech loose in my explorer with a can of expanding foam insulation is terrifing.

I have used the stuff and no matter how careful you are it goes everywhere. I would be super pissed if I have to look at bits of foam overspray everywhere in side the vehicle.

It will never be completely gone.

The rain noise is not that bad for me to risk the repair.

You got that right!

I would MUCH rather put up with the rain noise once in a while than deal with what I am going through.

That's the main point of this tread.

Remember.... No One Cares About Your Vehicle More Than You Do.

oh yeah expanding foam sticks and gets everywhere you don't want it to go, having used it for years around my home I would be terrified using it anywhere in my truck.

I had the TSB done and the tech did a great job. Couldn't tell it was ever done. :D

Seeing these disasters is exactly why I'm glad I waited. These techs are reading a piece of paper explaining what to do but haven't been trained how to do it!!! Thx again ford, I'll be better off letting a day laborer do it and tell him I'll pay you more the better it looks.... It'll be spotless!!! I went to two different dealerships for other things and mentioned to two techs about this TSB and BOTH said they've heard of it but no one has come in yet to get it done so they haven't done any yet!! I was not going to be their guinea pig.... How much could it possible cost ford to make an instructional video for these techs to "train" them and include in it, COVER everything with drop cloths and painters tape!!!!!! Sorry to see some of you guys going thru this.

I had it done and mine is spotless. No spots that I can see.

Agreed with others assessment though - the foam is hard to work with. The problem is that even after you let go of the trigger, the foam still oozes out of the hose/straw - that's because even though no additional foam is coming out, the stuff that is still in the straw starts expanding. It can ooze out of the straw for up to 5-10 minutes or longer. You have to be VERY careful. That stuff touches anything and it stains.

I specifically told the SA before hand to ensure that the techs cover everything up and especially be careful about the headliner, he ensured me they would.......guess not........

Mine is going in this week (as soon as parts come in) for the headliner TSB, along with the valve body replacement for the transmission TSB and cooling fan replacement. Thanks to this thread I know to check out the interior with a fine tooth comb BEFORE taking delivery.

Somehow the cooperation level from the dealer greatly diminishes once you have signed the paperwork and the vehicle is now in your possession so the dealer can get paid. When you have not taken possession and the dealer cannot be paid by Ford the issues somehow seem more important.

Well I now have mine back again!

The dealer had an interior "specialist" repair the cut in the new headliner. The repair looks better but far from acceptable. It pi$$es me off that my Explorer went in in perfect condition prior to this TSB and now I am expected to live with this second rate job.

I will probably be coughing up $1300 for a new headliner and installing it myself!

Burns my A$$ every time I look at my otherwise perfect vehicle.

H3LL if the dealer would front the new headliner I would personally install it so I know it is right.

Just as a reminder.

They got foam on the original headliner.
Replaced "foamed" headliner with a new one.
New headliner has a 1.5 in cut on passenger side A-pillar.
Dealer repaired cut (yeah right) and I am expected to deal with it.

Remember you heard it here first!

If you decide to get this done and the foam winds up on something you may be in for a ride.

Make them replace it again. It is their responsibility to return your vehicle in the condition in which you dropped it off. Give them hell, and then if they don't come around, ask Cory for help. Do not settle for the repair.

We have only had a light rain once since I had mine done, and the rain noise seems to be definitely better in the front of the car, but it sounds like there may be some pings to the further back - don't know if they missed some spots, but I can't deal with it anymore. It's better so I'll just deal with it.

cnsheets, dencan, & brent.l,

I have your Explorer’s details from previous messages, so send me a PM and I’ll arrange another follow-up.

Rodomontade,

I see you sent me a PM; I’ll send a reply as soon as I can.

I had it done and mine is spotless. No spots that I can see...
A big thanks to you guys for offering your time to help.

I appreciate the shout-out, VinceL. :)

Cory,

I am taking the EX back in tomorrow for an APIM replacement and for them to see what they can do about the foam splatter everywhere. They had also installed the passenger visor in backwards. Luckily, with this dealership I learned that I need to check the vehicle very carefully BEFORE I leave the lot. So the SA was made aware and saw these issues before I even left. They are also supposed to try and figure out all my windnoise as well. Time will tell. Its just getting very frustrating to know that I can EXPECT my vehicle to be returned in worse shape then when it goes in. They have not once returned the vehicle to me without there being some mess up that they created.

I appreciate the update, cnsheets. Please don’t hesitate to send me a PM for further assistance from your region’s Customer Service Manager.

Just curious as to why they are replacing your cooling fan...is this a TSB-related repair?

Welcome to the Forum Brenpatsa.:wavey:
I'm not sure exactly why brent.l is hoping to get the fans replaced but there is a TSB on the fans.

Well, they said the APIM replacement went well and everything is working good with that, however, looks like I'll be getting a new headliner and a new passenger seat cover (leather seat) as they could not get the foam off those areas and actually made it worse by trying to clean it. Guess we will wait and see what happens next. They said the new headliner and seat cover would take about a week(coming from Detroit).

I was going to get the same TSB done with my next visit. That will be next week when I go for an oil change, but I told them to hold off on the TSB for now. I'm having second thoughts after reading some of the posts. No one at the dealership has done this one yet so I'm going to wait and re-evaluate if I really need to get it done.
