last time plugs were changed?

plugs and wires were changed around a half a yr ago. oil change 2 weeks ago.

Brand new, these trucks had an MPG estimate of 15 city 20 highway for the manual and 14 city 18 highway for the automatic. You're talking about a 16 year old vehicle that has the aerodynamics of a brick and weighs a little over 2 tons.

Your driving habits have a lot to do with your fuel economy. If you carry a lot of unnecessary weigh, have a heavy right foot, idle a lot, don't keep your tires inflated properly, etc. then you'll have a negative effect on fuel economy.

Replace the fuel filter and tune up anything else that hasn't been done yet. Do you have any check engine codes? It might be 16 years old but it should get better mpg then that. My 93 gave me 15 mpg constantly and i always drove it like i stole it. As far as mods go, going synthetic in everything and a electric fan are always mpg gainers.

Do you know what your axle ratio is? My 94 has the 3.27, or one of the lowest numbered ones anyways....lower number gears will get better mpgs on the highway than higher ones. i.e.) 3.27:1 gear ratio will get higher mpgs than 4.10:1

I also drive by the tachometer, I try not to let it get over 2500rpms for long periods of time. I do all the basic mileage tips (slow acceleration, 55-60 on highway, not slamming on the brakes, etc) and I'm constantly getting 18 mpg

Another idea is to check your tire pressure.

Fuel pressure regulator

When they go bad, car may run fine but the fuel getting past the semi ruptured Diaphragm runs into the Intake manifold. adding fuel to the calculated Fuel injectors.

my '91 with 336K miles gets 20 mpg consistantly. you have an issue somewhere

Yep,my 94 gets 16.2 around town and my 2000 AWD with a 5.0 gets 15 city,17mpg hwy and I also drive it hard so you do have a problem.:D
