Hi everyone,

A quick note from overseas. I have just bought a 98 XLT (UK Spec) and have had nothing but problems with the anti roll bars and very bad body roll and suspension noise ? Do you have the same problem over there. Are there some good upgraded shocks and modifications you can do to your vehicle. Any comments would be appreciated !

Cheers

I believe there was a roll/sway bar recall a year or so ago....at least I had problems with mine. I'm not sure about the suspension noise, but there's no doubt that upgrading the sway bars and shocks will greatly improve your ride quality.

first welcome to the site
If your looking for the best explorer site on the net you have found it.
I would replace the shocks will help with the quality of the ride maybe the radius arm bushings help elimanite noise that is coming form the front of the truck and the
swaybars if you help elimant body roll.

The '98 doesn't have radius arms, it has torsion bars. As for the sway bar, there was a recall on them because the ends had a tendency to break off.

What type of suspension noises are you talking about?? If it's clunking, I know there has been an issue with the torsion bar adjuster arm pads wearing and causing a clunking.

You're right on the shocks, the factory ones are lousy. You'll find plenty of opinions here about what are good. I personally have the Gabriel VST's, but you also won't go wrong with the Monroe Sensatracs, the Edlebrock IAS, or the Bilsteins.

Thanks for your help guys ..... time to confuse my local auto shop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its great to know that even though we r 1000's of miles apart we can still help one another.
