Since I have had NO luck parting out my 99 4.0 SOHC rolling chassis, I have decided to put my 1952 Ford F-1 pick-up body on it. The 4x4 chassis will greatly improve the ride and handling, as well as gas mileage. I have to lenghten the fram a little, but the width is perfect. I will retain the EFI and AWD, but would like to keep the exterior of the 52 the same. Any ideas or comments would be great.

That is definately original. You would have the most outrageous Expl... uh, ex-Explorer on the board. Make sure to take lots of pics. Maybe you could integrate some of the interior niceties into the F1?

Just think of the look on someone's face when you pop the hood!!

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Awesome

I'd love to see that. I say go for it, but of course, it's not my money you're spending. :) I wish best luck though.

jeffd,
I think that would be a great idea. I figure if someone can think of it you can do it or get it.
As you can see in the picture with a little work you can join two vehicles. This is our 87 Aerostar on a 76 F-150 frame. We had to shorten the frame in the middle 14" and 10" off the rear and shorten the springs.
It really fit pretty good except for the 390 V-8 which was stock from the truck.

Good luck and I would like to see it after you are done with it. As for the interior you can do anything with that old of a truck. If you know of any upholstery guys that would help.

NOW that is a trail rig

We don't drive the van much anymore. We have more fun with the Explorer. Besides the van is pretty tall so you are always having to watch for trees.
The van needs a new motor also.
Teri drives them on the road and I do the driving when we are wheeling. Teri would rather ride then.

pretty explorer

I hope to at least start on this this summer. I have the entire 99 Explorer to use for parts (bad roll), except the power seats. I want to keep the AWD and dash, I dont care about the a/c or other fancy stuff like that, but it would be a great bonus. I will take measurments soon and see if I can make the dash fit and how long to stretch the frame. I will put up pics and keep y'all posted.

Thanks for the support.

ps- the Aerostar looks GREAT!!

Why not just chop the bed a little to make it fit?

I am not much of a body man, I am more of a parts changer. I am pretty good with wrenches, torch and welder, but not at all with the paint gun or bondo. I have a friend that owns a body shop that will paint the truck. There is a Ford parts shop in Lockport, NY (Buffalo) that carries almost anything you could imagine for these old cars and trucks. I will probly buy some new sheet metal (fender and rocker panel) and keep the old body original, at least on the outside.

Perry

I sure like the approach and departure angles on that van. Almost no overhang.

Cass City eh? I played in a junior golf tournament at Verona Hills, finished second actually, one of my best two day finishes.
Anyways... as far as the truck goes. Sounds like a great plan. I always like to see the old pick-ups restored to original but it's always fun to have a one of a kind. Good luck and have fun. I live in Midland at go to school in Flint at Kettering University (used to be called GMI). If you ever need any help, email me, I'de be glad to stop by and give you a hand. I could probably find a few other people at school who are interested enough to come with me.
Keep me informed.

jeffd i have heard of the 4door explorer chassis fitting the 53-56 F-100s perfectly. the only thing that you have to do is move the body mounts a bit. i dont know how different the 52 is from the 53 as far as the frame goes. what i would do is take out the engine so you dont hurt it and(im assuming you have the tires on it) and have some buddies over to help you position the cab on the fram till it looks right and make some marks on the frame where the 52s frame mounts are located and presto.

very cool

nice aero* very imprssive indeed....I wonder maybe if i could mount a pinto frame on a '79 F-100................. hmm maybe not............. wish riffman was around he could answer it for me :)

Go For It!

I follow your thinkin man. I am going to be doing the same with my 66 F-150 and a spare 99 Explorer chassis too. I am also in the middle of stubbing the front chassis ( drivetrain , suspension, steering and all) to whats left of the rear frame on my 61 unibody F-150 pickup.so let me know any nifty tricks you learn Thanks and G'luck T.J.
