Cross Drill or Slotted Rotors?

Same for my 99, normal Sport Trac rotors would have been $110-150, depending on where they came from. I liked the pattern on those that I installed on my 93/99. Enjoy,

Well I guess I have my next mod to save up for.

Any one wanna link me on where to purcahse said roaters and Hawk pads ?

seems like I am gonna have to make a phone call. web site lists third gen only.

Seems like a costly mod to do all four :(

This link click here shows the 95-01 explorer Both 2WD and 4WD. I agree though. $99.95 for each rear one and $109.95 for each front one (my application) seems a little steep.

This mod will be a long way off for me. :(

You really only need to do the front; thats what I did and they perform wonderfully, even while towing a heavy load.

The EBC brand is excellent, they are most famous for motorcycle brakes, and are in Europe.

Try the Tire Rack. They have all for now, and the last price I saw there was $150 per pair. Their pads are still good on my Mountaineer after 44k.

Hi guys, don't post here much but do a lot of reading. The best rotors you can get will not have slots or be cross drilled. Brakes fade, warp and glaze because of heat. Taking away material will only make that happen easier. Racers get slots to clean the pad surface or cross drill to reduce unsprung weight. That's great on a motorcycle or a race car but not really important on an explorer. Buy brand name, good quality rotors and pads, bed them properly, and make sure to use a torque wrench on your lug nuts.

Get a book on your vehicle and follow it. Its not that hard to do. Just basic tools are needed (at least that used to be true).

Is it hard to change rotors?

Remove the wheel off
pop off the dust cap.
remove and discard cotter pin.
remove wheel nut
remove washer and the think that holds the cotte pin from moving..
and then just pull.
the outer wheel bearing will come out fast. but the inner needs to be tapped out..

that is it really simple//

If you have a 4WD 95+ Explorer, than it's as easy as removing the wheel, the two large caliper bolts, and the rotor comes off.
