Do a search on "dump valve", as this is often the culprit.:us:

My cruise control stopped working over time (sometimes worked, sometimes not - then finally quit all together)...
I replaced the module that's over the glove box.
Works perfectly now!

 hmmm.... My Limited's CC is intermittently working too..

Well, I would start with the easiest solution first. Test to see if your Center High tail lights are out. If they are change them both. About two months of wondering why it my CC was out, I looked around on the forum, and someone mentioned that the brake lights are on the same circuit as the CC, so if your High brake lights go out, so does the cc. Changing the lights fixed mine, and was I amazingly relieved. Three dollar fix FTW!

There is a light just below the gauges and it should come on when the cruise is activated. I've heard mechanics say there is a problem with the amount of vacuum on these trucks that causes the cruise to quit working, not sure if there is any truth to it though.
