cruise control help?

is there any way to tell if the cruise control is even coming on in the gen 1 since there is no cc light...I'm not certain mine even comes on when I push teh on button.

If you take your foot off the gas pedal and it continues to travel at the same speed as when you hit the cc button.

actually, that wouldn't necessarily tell me if its on after pushing the on button...that could easily be a malfunction in the speed set.

On another note, my dump valve looks good atleast.

that still begs the question does the first gens have a cc light cause I keep hearing different things.

i have no idea, so i'm going to call the dealer. will let you know.

called the dealer. they were not sure if 1994 explorerhad a cc lamp, but did say it didn't show a replacement bulb in their parts book. on the lower left hand side of my instrument panel it shows, check engine, check oil and batt. on the lower right hand side it shows, 4x4, low range and abs.. so thats all i could find out. i tried your diagnostic test anyway and no blinks.

also on the right hand side just below the tach it shows, high beam, seat belt, anti theft and brake warning. that s all folks???

Just checked the dash lights in my 94xlt:

left turn - check oil - battery symbol........4x4 - low range - abs - right turn

below tach......high beam symbol - seat belt symbol - anti-theft - brake

My cruise works fine and I have never seen a cruise control symbol on my dash nor does my original manual show a bulb for it.

Hope that helped.

Scott

thats the same. strange. thanks alot. by the way do you have any idea where your dump valve is??

Looking..........a few inches above the brakelight switch, on the brake pedal arm, is a flange off of the brake arm that points rearward, this flange depresses (brake pedal in normal position) what I will assume is the dump valve.

I couldn't see any other switches on the brake arm.

******Post #5 identified it already though.

i felt above the brake pedal shaft and i could feel something, but i don't know exactly what?? I've got an appt. with a shop on Mon. a.m., to pull codes. i called the parts houses in the area about pulling codes, they said only for 96 and newer.

OK, Joe, I just took some pics of the dump valve, let's see if they help. BTW, this is my first time using PhotoBucket, so we'll see what happens.:us:

OK, the pictures transferred nicely, but my comments on each pic did not. I will add them here.
1) This is a pic of the brake pedal stem. You can see the actuator arm to the booster, then the brake light switch. Above the switch you can see a black plastic bracket that is attached to the pedal stem. Follow it toward the dash, and the end will flatten out. Underneath is the dump valve.

2) The white cylindrical piece is the dump valve.

3) Another pic of the DV.

4) This is the best shot of the DV, taken with the brake pedal depressed. The DV is moved by simply pulling or pushing, not by a "screwing" motion. When it moves, it makes a very audible "click".

outstanding!! thanks a bunch. i don't know how you got your hand let alone a camera up there???

Thanks for the feedback, hope this solves the location questions. The cam is a cheap little Kodak EasyShare C653. Bought it from NewEgg last year for a hundred bucks.:us:

sounds great, you'll here from soon.
thanks again

I didn't think to take pics. Exactly what mine looks like too.
