I just received my recall for the cruise control on my 99 XLS. It seems Ford is going to add a fuse. Do you suppose I'll also get one for my 97?

i got one for my '01 sport...

Might as well give it a try. I got one the day they started doing the service. Took a maximum of 5 seconds for them to install it.

I got mine last week too. I made an appontment only to have it cancelled because the dealership didnt have the parts. I had disconnected until it gets fixed.

any idea's about a 97 being affected? with a 5.0

I DOnt know about a 97. My 2000 has a 5.0 but I dont know for sure how far back the recall goes. The mech at the dealership said that the switch can leak internally and might start a fire. The switch is at the very end of the master cylinder. I had it disconnected because the recall letter i recieved recomended getiing the switch disconnected until a jumper fuse was installed. The recall letter said something like " dont park next to buildings until the service is performed " . I think this recall was on the F150's and other vehicles , Ford is now expanding it to Explorers.

recall

I don't always pay attention to recalls, but after reading in the local paper about many Explorers burning, I took my 00 in yesterday and had it fixed. They put in a fusable link in about 5 minutes -:burnout:

Recall

Just purchased a 99 EB from private owner; could someone post recall or trucks involved?

To see if your truck is included all you should have to do is call the Ford Dealer and give them your vin # They will be able to tell you if your truck is in the recall or any other recalls for your truck.

your 99 is included...my ex's 95 bronco got recalled for the same thing as did my 00 exploder

we got the letter for our 98 ranger 3.0

i called the dealership friday to ask about a seat recall, and they ran my vin on my 96 explorer, they said it had no current issues, seat or otherwise

yet its quite likely that your 96 is the same as your ranger... :-?

When I made my appointment for the repair, I asked about my 97 x, gave them my VIN and found the 97 4.0 OHV XLT wasn't recalled. But if the fix is a fusible link, why not just install one?

a lot of people have done that until the recall was expanded. But in order to get damages from ford should your car go up in flames, a dealer has to be the one to install it, to condirm it's the right part, and it's properly installed:rolleyes: it took them 45 minutes to do mine after the took it back to the service bay. But I could hear them rev my motor a couple of times, so I think they were being nosy.

I think Ford's liability is preserved if they insist on doing the fuse/harness themselves, with the recall.

If they accepted people doing their own work, that would assume that people could always determine the power wire of the two. If a fuse is located on the sensor wire, then the power is still getting to the sensor, thus a fire is still possible. That harness is their way of insuring that the proper wire is fused.

I personally wish that they would provide a new switch for the actual suspect units. I hope that they have done that, originally the only way that they identified them was by their red top, in the years first recalled. My 99 has the red topped sensor, but it wasn't in the first recall. Now it is in the recall, but that just gets me the free fuse.

Got my letter, made an appointment. A couple of days later they call and tell me they ran out of parts and to check back around October.

Had the same issue, my sensor was actually leaking brake fluid. Went to Ford dealership and was told mine wasn't recalled. So I ordered a new switch and installed my own inline fuse. Prior to replacing my sensor my cruise didn't work and the light would flash anytime I would try to set it.

Like someone replied before ... It only takes like 15 minutes to get it done at any dealership. I just didn't like the installation because they used zip-ties to secure it.

The zip ties are part of the part/harness. Mine was handed to me by the mechanic, so I could do it myself. I laid it around my master cylinder until I got around to installing just a fuse.

The fuse needs to go into the wire which has the constant power leading to the switch, not the one leading from it. If you add one yourself, pull the wire connector off of the sensor/switch before testing the wires. One will have power, the other should not have any. Regards,

Took mine in today. When I got there the service guy told me they were out of the parts. I said, "What's the big deal it's just a fusible link?" He said he was still out of the parts, but he would disconnect the switch and check for leaking and I could bring it back when the part was in. I was pissed to be making an extra trip. Anyway, he found the part and fixed the recall.

What I don't understand is if Ford is the only car made that makes you actually turn on the cruise to set it, how is this such a dangerous situation?
