I know in 2007 there was a recall for the ST (and other Ford Vehicles) in 2007 for the cruise control system having the potential to start a fire. The immediate fix was that the stealership would disconnected the cruise control and when parts were available you would bring the vehicle back to have a special resistor cable installed.

I just aquired a 2001 ST and the only issue it has is that the cruise control is not activating. Is it possible the DSPO never brought the vehicle back to have the special resistor cable installed? Is there a simple way for me to check and see if this recall has been performed/completed?

Yeah it should be obvious. It should look like the picture below and have a big blue sticker.

yeah i fixed my cruise control recall long time ago on my 01 sport

Or if the switch that is red in that pic- is black, it has been replaced. Some got harnesses, some got new switches back in the day. I grabbed one of those harnesses at the junkyard since Ford was out of stock for so long, and unplugging my cruise was not a feasible option for me...

If the switch has/had brake fluid on it from "leaking" a new switch was authorized.

A saying to go with the switch was "If it's red you're dead".

We just received a letter from ford co. to perform the repair free of charge (parts and labor) the risk that you mention exists on vehicles equipped with or without speed control;as they say in the letter, contact them if possible and check on that, mine is a ford explorer xls 2002. hope this may help.

well mines a 1997 mountaineer. got the letter to day toke it done to the dealer gave them the keys went out for a smoke when done smoking the mounty was done. they installed a universal fused jumper harness. the cost $30.00 to me free :D

same exact thing i did today, except my dad had the letter at work for almost month and neglected to remember himself to even tell me about it or that it could start a fire even tho I park in the garage once in a while. (I park on the driveway most nights)

Wow- ok. Well, if they're just putting in the jumper harnesses, I'll keep mine and not hassle with the dealer. :)
