EDIT: While the switch did not light up it functions perfectly- not very positive feeling switch but the car responds

I see that everyone has had success when replacing the switches. But has anyone had this problem. OEM switch would not engage anymore replaced with OEM switches from ford and still nothing, I checked fuses and all seems fine I am confused as I am a tech but work on 50's to mid 90's in a resto shop. I have a chilton's book but the info lacks severely. I am not to proud to say I'm stumped

I had a problem with the cruise control cable falling off at the throttle body, actually I still do. Only takes a couple of seconds to reconnect when it happens which seems to be about once every 1,000 miles or so. Just an idea for something to look at.

Thanks for the heads up on that. The problem this time was a corroded wire at the servo. when the alarm was installed the person must have nicked the wire and moisture got in

A Set or Each?

The Prices that everyone is quoting on the switches; Is that EACH or PER SET? I'm still looking on E-Bay, and they are running about $25.00 to $40.00 for a SET (Left and Right) of cruise control switches. I'd rather buy new if the price was comparable, but with 178,000 miles on her, I'm not going to dump a lot of coins out for these.

Piece of Cake

Well, I finaly got a nice day to install my "E-Bay" cruise control switches, and thanks to this forum, it was pretty much a piece of cake. One thing anyone else taking on this small project may want to do to make it a bit easier, is that after removing the two bolts holding the center horn/airbag are removed, you can disconnect the one pink locking electrical conector and get it out of your way while you are working. I do know one thing, though; those connectors on the switches themselves are a booger to pull off!! They were on there TIGHT! :frustrate Oh, by the way, I remember some one saying they had problems getting the two little plastic caps off that cover up the two bolts on back of the steering wheel. I just "gently" used my pocket knife to get under them and pry them up until I could pull them off with my fingers, so I didn't mess them up too bad. They snapped right back in place when I was finished. Thanks again guys for all the support!

cruise control switch... those connectors on the switches themselves are a real pain. I dont really see how they snap in to the switch...and dont want to screw this up ...can someone throw me a bone and tell me the best way to disconnect these?

I used a pair of pliers, BUT be careful!! Don't squeeze too hard or you could break the conectors, and then you would have a REAL problem. As I said in my post (above) they are really tough to pull off, but they will come off. As far as I could tell, there is no "Catch" or "Release" that you have to un-do to pull them out of the switch(s). Just remove the swithches from the steering wheel, by taking out the two screws, and grab the hard plastic connector (NOT THE WIRES) with your fingers, or GENTLY with pliers, and work it loose. When installing the new switche(s) onto the wiring harness, I never did hear a "Click" or a "Snap" when I pushed the connector(s) on. You just have to be sure they are pushed into the switch as far as they will go (No pliers needed for this part). Good luck! I hope yours turn out as good as mine did!

Can anyone confirm whether the Amazon or FastPartsNetwork switched light up early gen 2 ice blue, or later gen 2 green?

i did this on my 95 XLT and 02 Ranger. i got mine from ford, and they come as a set left and right.

1) First off when working around air bags ALWAYS disconnect the battery!

2)on the back part of the steering wheel on either side there will be two circle plastic covers. remove them to uncover the 8mm screws.

3)remove the screw from each side and remove the horn pad/air bag assembly. becareful when pulling the assembly out because there will be a wiring harness attached

4) each button pod is held on by screws.

5) disconnect cruise control button pod harness and install new one

can anyone tell me where the cruise control servo is located. i have replaced the switches and wires, and the brake pedal park release/cruise control shut-off and my cruise control is still not engaging consistently. any ideas i guess the only thing left is the servo.
