Bought on 04 Explorer and I can seem to figure out why the cruise wont turn on. I have bypassed the deactivation and brake switches. Light on dash doesnt come on when turning key on or when pressing on switch. All fuses test ok.......any ideas?

Topped off brake fluid and still wont turn on. Tryed running test mode and light on dash wont even come on???????

Check out the the threads I linked concerning the switch on the master cylinder.

NM - missed the part where you said the light comes on with the button pressed.

My cruise wouldn't work... after investigation, the cable had popped off the throttle cable... popped it back on, hey presto it works...

Happy

Mine occasionaly doesn't work.. no clue why it will stop working if I cut it off mid drive and will not work again unless I either wait and hope or cut the truck off and back on while on hwy...

Very random issue kinda minor to me but can be frustrating... Maybe once a month

Cruise control fuse

Just a thought... Did you check the cruise control fuse? Start with the simple first!

I am still trying to resolve this issue. All fuses are good. When the ignition is turned to the on position the cruise light doesn't illuminate. I cant get it to even enter the diagnostic mode. Any ideas?

Me too on my '99. :(

On my 2002, the dash indicator light does not turn on when the key is turned on. It only illuminates when it’s actually in use, when driving after the “On” button is pressed AND the “Set” button is pressed. So when troubleshooting each switch, you actually need to drive it and try to turn it on. I’m not sure if a 2004 works the same way though!

I am having the same problem. It will not work at speed or during a diagnostic mode test.

Someone posted to check fuse 17 under the drivers side area so I will do that later today.

It is weird that it won't turn on at all.

I do have the replacement harness for the fire issue installed. Maybe I need to get the plug replaced on the master cylinder instead?

I am going to order the switch part and see if that fixes it.
