Well I think I got a good deal on 100 feet of galvanized 5/16 wire rope with a 6000lb alloy hook built in. It cost a hair over 60 bucks with the hook and made to order. Does this sound like a good deal? Does anybody know how the terminal lug on the other end is held on? Do they solder it or is it just pressed on? I may take a terminal lug to them and have it pressed on as well. They use a 50 ton press to crimp there cables.

Anybody

if your winch is larger then a 6k then i say no. having a 6k hook on an 8k winch is not safe nor is it smart. also what size wire does your winch have? how many feet will fit on the drum? you dont want to cheap out on a winch cable. as it could maim/damage/kill something or someone.

just looked at your old posts and it says you have a 8k winch. so a 6k hook is not acceptable
edit: save your money and put it towards a synthetic line. or at least cable properly rated for your winch

The cable is 100' 5/16 galvanized steel, which is what the Warn website calls for. The company I got the cable from deals with heavy industrial rigging and seem to very reputable in the industrial community around here. I will probably have them leave the hook off. Do you have a winch? If so could you look at your hook and tell me if it has any load ratings stamoped on it? They also sell Amsteel blue. Thanks for the reply.

I might just go with a clevis instead of a hook.

Ok, I've gotta say it. It's "interrupt."

What the hell does that mean?

Oh ok. Never could spell worth a dam. There I fixed it. Didnt know we had a bunch of comedian spell checkers here. :p

Well here is the cable I had made. After talking to Warn and with the guys at the rigging company, this seemed like a good option. I talked to Warn technical assistance, the guy was suprised when I said I was going to put a 3 ton hook on the end of the cable. He said why so big? The hand you see belongs to a 320 pound Hawaiian just for a little perspective.
