I am in the process of making my explorer sellable but i have a noise from the front end that just gets worse
i have been told by a mechanic that it was the CV shaft but and not dead set on throwing $100 at a guess. So what im asking is could i remove (temporary of course) the shaft to see if i no longer have a sqeak to prove his point?

Funny thing is after i sell it im sure i will still be on her getting ideas for the next truck :D
Thanks,
Exploder

No you can't take it off and drive the truck. The CV shaft makes sure the wheels are spinning at the same rate in the front of the truck among other important functions.

OK thats how its been the past couple months nothing easy any def. way of telling if its bad?

it was a noise when i was braking then it turned into a high speed vibration with the past week when it warmed up when i hit a bump or turn the wheel it sqweaks and makes me wanna tear out my hair the noise over bumps sounds like a shock to me but when i reproduce it in my drive way i cant even see the shock move
thanks tho

Not trying to be mean, but some punctuation and capitalization would be beneficial to you and me both. That is extremely difficult to read.

But....

Squeaking when turning the wheel sounds like a lower ball joint to me :dunno:

Sorry about that! I have heard about alot of people replacing them. I just hate replacing good parts. Im just going to give in and have a shop inspect it then fix it myself.
Thanks for your help though this forum has always been great and i am sure i will come here when i get my new truck. The explorer just didnt take the abuse to well. BtW you look like you might know this i dented my gas tank (rock) i have a feeling theres no easy way to fix that either?

Are you SURE you're not talking about the infamous Ford tie-rod end that has dried out and is not greasable?

When you turn the wheel you hear a creak-creak-creak. When you take off you hear a creak.

Now, Ford is most assuredly not the only manufacturer who now uses a number of non-greasable fittings. MOST manufacturers don't use greasable fittings anymore, except for maybe GM who uses ancient engineering technology anyhow (for the most part). Most are using synthetic-impregnated material into the bearings (balljoints for example) which lowers maintenance costs and allows for a service life just as long as or longer than conventional greasable fittings.

well i have school and work today, so tomorrow i will have it checked out. I just hope its only one thing making alot of noise but i have the feeling its two worn out somethings. Thanks for your help ill post my results as to how much my wallet hurts and what parts after i get a est.
