I did a search and didnt find anything. I am getting ready to narrow my 78 Bronco D44, and i am curious if i can narrow it to a specific length to make another stock shaft fit (mabye EB or somethig)? I was planning on just doing the standard 6" chop, but then i started thinking that it would be much easier to cut it to a length that is available already, instead of resplinning the current shaft. Any ideas?

thats the general concept - chop it down so that an OEM axle shaft will fit. just make sure the OEM axle shaft has the same bolt pattern and splines as the original axle shaft (you might also have to worry about some axles being "big bearing" and some not, but i dunno). the Warn website has a nice but short table on OEM axle shaft lengths for the d44.

by looking at the warn website, the EB 30 spline looks to be almost exactly 6" shorter.

I know you said you searched, but search again in the SAS registry because it's been talked about several times. The EB shaft can be used on the passenger side. The measurement is somewhere between 5.5"-6.5". It varies between each SAS, just gotta search around some. ;)

If it is a F150Dana44 it is 6" (5.9 or something) for the shaft out of a EB to fit. Unfortunately, it cost me less to have dutchmann shorten and respline my stock shaft that it cost to buy a new shaft. You Should call Moab powertrain and see what they charge for respline and shorten. This guy helped me out when I was there and specializes in it. If I do it again, he would be the guy I use.
