Detroit True Trac

This is new territory for me folks. Even though I no longer drive my Explorer, I still think you guys can help me out better than the guys on the dodge forum. So...

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 4.7L with 3.55's and a 9.25" open rear. I cant stand having an open rear. With the torque of the V8 I'm constantly spinning in the rain and when it snowed the other day I had to put it in 4wd just to get up a little hill that I know I would be able to get up if I had a LSD.

So far it seems like the Detroit True Trac is the best bet for me since I will be mostly on the road. I dont want a locker that is going to bang and clunk

Now, I've searched on this site for the Detroit True Trac and didnt find much and most of what I found was for front diffs.

Here's what I want to know. Is this Detroit True Trac going to be like the LS is my Explorer? My Explorer would always spin both rears in the snow and rain when I had it in 2wd. It would also chug right thru snow in 4wd. Is this Detroit True Trac going to do that for me? Will I be able to light em up now and then on dry pavment? As you can tell, I'm looking for something that will be just like my Explorers LS.

How is the install for one of these things? It involves changing the carrier right? Does that just mean pull the axle shafts, do a couple other things and put it all back together? Or does it involve doing that micrometer thing and setting angles and whatnot.

Anybody with experience with rear ends and/or the Detroit True Trac please feel free to respond.

CJ.. try going to http://www.dodgedakota.com I'm sure they can help you on it.. Just fromt reading their site, it seems like they all recommend a Detroit True-trac limited slip.

Thanks Blee, that looks like a very good choice.
