1998 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 AWD with P0442. I have been driving it this way for about a year. I already replaced the stuff over the spare tire to no avail. I read that there is stuff under the battery so today I thought I would pull the battery tray and see what is there.
The first thing I did after the tray was out of the way was to touch the hose that runs up the side of the battery at the connector and it snapped off. I think to myself, "Good thing I have a parts truck." I proceed to remove the two hoses from the parts truck and managed to get them off without breaking them. I got one of the hoses off the daily driver but the one that runs under the A/C compressor refuses to come off. I actually managed to break off the retainer tabs but the hose will not come off.
If I leave these hoses off will the truck run? Yes, I know at the least it will have a CEL on. Will it spew fuel without these hoses or is it just vapor?
