Alright my explorer was lacking power and I could never figure out why. It was fine a couple of months ago and now it's back to weak. It's when I floor it, it only jumps to 3.0 RPM's. I found out it was the gas pedal you have to push the tip of your toe down as hard as you can to make it respond. Does any one else have this problem, does any one know how to tighten the pedal.

under the hood, on the side of the throttle body, unhook it, slide it out of the bracket, and turn it one way or the other, lenthen it to get more pedal, make sure the bracket isn't bent or broken or the end of the cable, that might be the problem..

Nick, it might also be a bad throttle position sensor.

I might have the same problem. Is our gas pedal supposed to sit pretty close to the floor (space behind the pedal)? I just thought Ford designed this car so we can drive with our toes because if I don't drive with my toes I have to move my heel alot to hit the brake because the brake sits in what I would call the normal position, while the gas is so much lower. That probably didn't make sense. Is this just like your problem? Thanks

I got what you said, and yes I have the same promblem the gas sits further down then the brake

I noticed the first explorer I drove that you have to use your toes to drive. I have a big shoe and just could get no power, then i pushed my toe into it and we took off.

another possibility

There is a small spring behind the gas pedal to keep it at the correct angle to the lever which the pedal mounts to. This spring can break (mine recently did) or come out of its mount. When this happens, the end of the spring wire sticks out behind the pedal and keeps it from fully depressing to the floor.
You can adjust the cable linkage as described above but if the adjustment was proper at one time, it should not change without something else being the cause. Check that pedal spring...
