In the process of changing the heater core on my 97 XLT 5.0 and got to the point in the haynes manual where it says " gently slide dash out and unplug connectors" only problem is the dash will not "gently" slide out. Seems like something is holding in on the top. Anyone know what it is or could be? At this pt any help would be greatly appreciated and probably get you into heaven.

Thanks,
Jim

Fill your mouth full of water, use a .40 glock under your chin, do it in the yard so the wife has no mess to clean up, good luck :D

With the truck or the glock?

Pump a couple clips into the truck, Kill the evil monster, than do what you have to do ;)
stop on the project for a day, than start again, things will get better

WTF ?!?!???!

One possibility is that some of the window urathane got on the dash and is holding on tight.
Does it at lease wiggle ?

Also dont worry about getting me into heaven, I know some one on the inside ;)

I suggested trading it in. Suicide is not a good option. How will Ford be able to sell you replacement parts if you are dead? ;)

Did you remove all 5 bolts at the top of the dash?

Is all a matter of Hydrolics, you do not want any air filled voids.
Ever shoot a watermelon?

So if you have air in your mouth, your head will explode, or it wont? I have neve shot a watermelon, no.

Most that try to commit suicide via .40, or any cal, cerebral lead infusion fail, and end up as veggies (this is not a good thing as it wastes tax dollers to take care of some moron that could not do the job)
As I am certain you are aware, there is a correct way to get any job done.
Not filling the mouth with water will allow part of the blast to escape, sort of like a vent, you want 100% of the force to be directed upward and remove the entire top of the head along with most of the brain tissue (a job well done) no medical costs, no ER visit, you go straight to the undertaker (no tax bux wasted)
since we are on the subject, the absolute best way is to Hemingway yourself, (this technique never fails) 12 GA. shotgun in the mouth, pointed towards the very top of the skull, 100% success rate gauranteed
The above is grusome granted, but true, cannot imagine a dash removal ending in such drastic measures :D

Yes, I agree, shotgun is much more effective. Hard to miss at that range.

No one should kill themselves over an Explorer, though.

Are you sure no one?

Have you ever changed a heater core in a 97 xlt, and before replacing the evap core and blower decide its a good time to change the plugs and wires. Then have one plug literaly snap in half flush with the head? I'm still debating..... mouth full of water or empty..........wouldn't your mouth open anyway?

It will run well enough on 7 cyl to drive it down to the local charity for donation. Heck, you can probably make it without replacing the coolent if you pick one nearby. ;) :p

Casting this off to a non profit charity would just be wrong not to mention unethical.
