1995 Explorer XLT 4.0
First off, hello! I apologize in advance if this is posted in the wrong spot. I am proud to join the forum, and I am a proud owner of a 1995 Explorer XLT, that could use some TLC, which brings me to my problem... I picked up my vehicle for very cheap so as expected it came with some assumed problems. I want to remove my running board because they aren't being held on by much, however, I am not sure how the truck would look after the running boards are removed due to the fact that The body is very rusted and the running boards don't even clip to the body any more, are there any good ways to remove them and clean up/clear the rust that is behind them? (Cut out, bondo, ect) I will upload pictures if needed, and again, I apologize if this was posted in the wrong section or already covered extensively...

Thanks, Nik

I don't have much visible rust but I'm thinking about cutting out what I do have and then gluing trim along the bottom.

Mine is completely rusted. The runing boards really don't have a use anymore, I just don't want my truck to look completely trashy if I'm unable to clean up/cut out the rust. Any ideas anybody?

taking the running boards will leave holes where the running board bolts to. You can pick up the "stock xl or xls) trim which goes there to cover up your holes and will be a direct fit. google around for pics of those trims in any year from 95-01. I plan to do this mod as well and here is what i am going to do

also some pics of your "rust" would be nice...
upload to photobucket and link that photobucket link here..

I think the 99-01 Limited has just a urethane rocker molding that might suffice.
