My sons 94 Explorer Sports dash lights are partially out. How hard are the bulbs to change? Do I have to totally remove the cluster to change the bulbs. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful! I'd like to do it today if I get some good info! Not a job I'm looking forward too but the cluster is pretty dim!

The dash cluster does have to come out to change those bulbs. they are 194's, and there are either 4 or 6 back there, can't remember off the top of my head. things that will make your job easier.

you need to drop the 2 bolts that hold the steering column up. that will drop the wheel out of your way, and you can get the cluster out without scratching / breaking it.

You need to reach behind and squeeze the Speedometer cable clamp that is directly behind the speedo. it's a bear, and you'll probably swear up a storm, but it comes off. just find the big side of the round connector, and squeeze.

For best results, go find yourself a Chiltons on amazon.com or BN.com, that's the best way to do it without breaking anything.

Good Luck

Hey I tried this and it worked! Only problem though is that I lost the 2 bolts for the steering column? Any ideas? I think they rolled out onto the driveway and one of my always hungry basset hounds sucked them up... who knows? The good news is that I found a bungy cord at Lowes that seems to be doing the trick of keeping the wheel snug. I'm so happy to have my dash lights back. It has been so hard driving to and from work in the dark with no illumination especially at speeds over 90! Thanks Again Mazda Greg!!!

That definately doesn't sound good. Not sure I'd be cool with my steering column not bolted in. You might want to reconsider.
